Enzyme-on-Chip (PCR on chip)

Geniom presents a revolutionary combination of PCR and microarray analyses, superior to any previous approach applied in genomic research – Enzyme on Chip!

Enzymatic reactions on a biochip

febit’s new 3’-inversed synthesis set for Geniom biochips enables reverse (3’-up) synthesis of DNA oligonucleotides in the biochip. The emerging probes present free 3’-ends accessible to enzymes like nucleic acid polymerases, thus providing a broad spectrum of new applications for DNA microarrays, like PCR-on-chip or primer extension reactions.

Merging polymerase-based reactions with the world of highly parallel microarrays and microfluidic reaction carriers, the Geniom technology also offers real time control over temperature, and fluorescence monitoring.

Lab on a chip

The combination of both techniques becomes possible with febit’s Geniom technology that, for the first time, integrates the high-throughput of microarray analyses and the extraordinary sensitivity of enzymatic reactions in the microchannels of its microfluidic reaction carrier. This powerful combination transfers today’s molecular biologist’s enzyme toolbox from single test tube procedures to a versatile lab on a chip format.

Geniom enabled Enzyme on Chip applications include:

  • The detection and SNP genotyping of nucleic acids including minisequencing and arrayed primer extension.
  • The production of double stranded DNA arrays for research on DNA-binding and -modifying proteins like restriction enzymes, transcription factors and many more
  • Multistep procedures including consecutive enzymatic reactions and washing steps can be performed with extreme technical ease due to the microfluidic system.
  • Integrated on-chip transcription, restriction digests, phosphorylation, ligation and amplification in development.
