The Biochip

The Geniom biochip

The Geniom biochip comprises eight separate micro channels with individual fluid control, each of them serving as a reaction carrier for in situ oligonucleotide synthesis and as a hybridization chamber. Each micro channel contains 15,624 individual features. Each array may be loaded with a different sample or combined to obtain 124,992 features for high-density applications. A microfluidic interface connects reservoirs containing synthesis chemicals to the Geniom biochip. The microfluidic system is kept in an inert argon atmosphere providing superior reaction conditions and eliminating the need of clean room atmosphere and humidity control during array production. For easy handling, the Geniom biochip is mounted on a cartridge.

Biochip facts:

  • three-dimensional disposable microchannel chip
  • 8 segments with individual fluid control for 8 independent arrays
  • supports in situ oligonucleotide synthesis and hybridization
  • enables parallel hybridization of 8 different samples
  • enclosed cartridge for easy handling and auto-alignment to fluidics and optics
  • memory chip for identification and tracking

Array layout:

  • current software setup provides for 15,624 features of 33x33 µm per array
  • defining a complete biochip as one array (15,624 x 8) yields 124,992 features
